Programs

Wilkes Developmental Day School offers specialized programming to fit your child's individual needs including Speech/Language, Physical and Occupational Therapies.

WDDS also retains the services of a full-time registered nurse to attend to any medical needs that may arise.

In addition, WDDS offers early intervention and special education to children in childcare and in the home. WDDS has a good standing relationship with the Children Developmental Services Agency.

A full-time Infant-Toddler Specialist is on staff to monitor for any red flags in a child's development and delays in developmental milestones.

Children at Wilkes Developmental Day School who are 3 and over have a BK certified teacher in the classroom. All other lead teachers and teachers assistants have an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. Our child staff ratio is 1:4 in the infant room, 1:5 in the 1 year old room and 1:6 in the 2-5 year old rooms. We also have volunteer grandparents that are a great asset to the school.

Every child at WDDS, with parent permission, is assessed by teachers and teachers assistants using the Early Lap and Creative Curriculum assessments. The results of each assessment is used to create goals for the child and is shared with the parent.

Other Extras

The Director of Wilkes Developmental Day School has over 30 years experience and puts the safety and best interest of the children and the family at the forefront of running our school.

Wilkes Developmental Day School has cameras in every classroom. Every staff member has had Partners in Prevention Darkness to Light training and our school is designated as a safe zone for children. Present and past events can be viewed on the monitor in the office.

Wilkes Developmental Day School has developed menus to meet the best practice standards of the Child and Adult Care Food Program. We offer fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables along with providing sound nutrition with every meal. Locally grown produce is used when possible and the children have gardens to learn about fresh foods and where they come from. Our cook has an Associates Degree in Culinary Arts and is certified in Safe Serve Food Safety for Handlers.

WDDS has a music teacher that comes into each of the classrooms to give the children another type of learning experience. Check out our Facebook page for videos that show the fun she brings to the children.
