Wilkes Developmental Day School currently is licensed to serve 83 children. While some government agencies and DPI help to fund the school we are still dependent on the generosity of donors, like you, to be able to continue to provide the best quality of care.

Wilkes  Developmental Day School has a mission to teach children and their families what a healthy lifestyle looks and feels like. Below are some of the ways we try to achieve this.....

In January 2019 WDDS became a 5 Star Breast Feeding Friendly Facility. Wilkes Developmental Day School is currently 1 of 3 facilities in the state to have the 5 star rating.

In February 2019 the school received the Shape NC grant. This provided materials and equipment to increase physical activity and improve children's and families knowledge about healthy nutrition. Wilkes Developmental Day School was chosen to be the Shape NC Model Site and received the award on April 4th.

WDDS participated in the Farm to Table Initiative, NC Farm to Childcare Collaborative. Through partnering with the Wilkes Partnership for Children and donations from local businesses, a $500 grant from Miracle Grow, a $500 grant from Aldi's and Lowes and parent volunteers we built 6 garden beds for the children to plant and harvest fresh vegetables that they ate with lunch and snacks. Children learn where food comes from and are eager to taste the foods they grow.

Wilkes Developmental Day School creates its own menus using fresh, local, and organic items when available. Our school is evaluated by the CACFP program and rated excellent. Menus are available to view in the hallway next to the kitchen.

Menus can be viewed under the Menu tab.
