ACADEMICS
Information about each child is gathered
by observing children during play and work activities.
Children are asked to describe what he/she has created or what
they are doing. The information gathered is then analyzed
by the teach to evaluate (assess) each child's development.
Assessments allow us to see what level of
development a child is developing, in addition to his/her
interests. As a teaching tool assessments aide teachers in
creating lesson and activities to meet the developmental needs
of every child as an individual.
Portfolios are created for each child. They are notebooks
that include photographs, work samples, art work, anecdotal
notes-based on observations. They are shared with the
parents and are sent to the next class when a child moves up.
This helps new teachers (and parents) to clearly see the
child's progress and interest. The portfolio is
given to the parents when the child leaves the school.
Tools used for assessments are observations,
Creative Curriculum assessment, and Early LAP (Learning
assessment profile). Children with special needs or who
are showing delays are formally evaluated with parental consent
by the public school system or the CDSA (Children's
Developmental Services Agencies) . Individual goals are
created and teachers incorporate the goals in the daily
routines. |
