ABOUT WDDS
For nearly
40 years, parents and
professionals have relied on Wilkes Developmental Day School, a private
non-profit agency, to meet the needs of children with various
abilities, in an inclusive setting.
Children receive specialized programming to fit individual needs,
including Speech/Language, Physical and Occupational therapies.
Classrooms have lower child/staff ratios than required by the state,
allowing more individual attention to be given to each child.
Staff consists of certified teachers, infant/toddler family specialists
and a school nurse.
Certified by the Department of Health and Human Services
as a Developmental Disabilities Center, WDDS is also licensed as a 5
star childcare center by the Division of Child Development. The
school has received the distinction of being accredited by the National
Association for the Education of Young Children.
The preschool program is open to all children ages' birth to five.
These are inclusive classrooms, which simply mean some of the children
enrolled have a disability or are at risk for a delay, and others are
enrolled solely for childcare. Every child is assessed and
their individual needs established. The teachers work on
individual goals for each child as part of their daily routine.
Additionally, WDDS offers Home Bound services for children who maybe too medically fragile to attend
public school or other childcare facilities.
Wilkes Developmental Day School is open Monday through Friday from
6:30AM to 5:00PM. The school observes the Wilkes County School
system calendar during the school year.
